Past Perception
It is with eyes that we as people, see
Not ever seeing what truly lies below
It is with ears that we as people, hear
But it’s with our hearts that we will truly know
Look not at a person, seeing the clothes worn
Look not and see the car they own or drive
Hear not the ramblings of an upset person
Look and listen hard to why they are alive
To perceive, I think is a downfall of mankind
As we never really thrive to learn what’s true
We seldom sit and try to understand what’s right
That’s where one would lose the site of you
For we must not look with the eyes, though they see
For we must not hear with the ears, though they hear
To not judge, nor be confused, to know the real you
We need to see and hear with hearts, get past fear
Fear is the guide that stops us from knowing
Fear is the lock that keeps us in one place
Perceive not, for then they are just opinions
Look down deep within, beyond one’s face
