Passengers On the Train

A train that’s ridden from birth to death Picking up passengers along the way Some people there as short as a breath Others that are there almost every day I watch as some people keep their distance Tending to their personal needs Attempts to connect, met with resistance And so without them life proceeds Family and friends add comfort to the ride Sharing the adventure for a while Friends depart, from the group they divide Some with regret, others hostile Passing from one train to another Changing their chosen path Taking the memories with each other Connecting as though a telepath Family leaves like they've been derailed Their journey ends at their final stop Their purpose is now completely unveiled Remembered with every tear drop The train picks up speed as time passes Hurriedly approaching the destination Achievement and loss slowly amasses Working to live through compensation It reaches the end, the train clears out All your loose ends are tied up Now the unknown fills you with doubt As the end of the line creeps up
