Painted Nails
Painted Nails
By Kevin Robey
December 9, 2013
It goes beyond painted nails I wear
When hands I hold bring judging stares
I dare you to come over and talk to me
And I’ll let you know every way to be free
Freedom is bliss, but it comes with a price
Knowing this heart has more than a vice
Judged by so many, understood by a few
A comforting fact; you see more than I do
This isn’t what imprisons me under lock and key
Hating myself for ignoring my desperate plea
Straight as a spear to pierce through my ears
Push down my sleeves to conceal all the tears
I never let go and let the hatred overflow
I still cry those tears but I let them all show
Hear me hum along, you’re singing my song
Show me melodies I’ve known all along
I don’t know who you are or your identity
But I can see so clearly all the possibilities
With so much unknown, to face on my own
I feel this single truth right down to my bones
So it may not be the life designed for a ring
But lying all the time has become exhausting
While the stars decide where my heart will lie
I’ll try my best to smile, until the day I die
