Owl Outa Luck

view incredible owl swoops mouse - concrete stands still rats...inedible I considered naming this haiku 'An Owls View of the White Dove of the Desert.' Mission San Xavier Del Bac, in Tucson, AZ aka 'The White Dove of the Desert', a Catholic Church, depicts in its facade, a cat and a mouse on its left and right sides. Legend has it that the world's end will occur when the cat catches the mouse, though nobody knows how this legend came to be, they are intricately displayed on the front of the beautiful old mission. The White Dove of the Desert on the outskirts of Tucson is well worth a view, but owls beware; those mice are for the cat's catch.....

The cat is as the mouse, I guess they're both cat-atonic, and if he ever does catch the mouse, legend has it we're all in trouble! I can't help but wonder where the concept of that legend came from!

Thank you Harry, I'm glad you liked it. The whole thing is strange, I always wonder why they put the mysterious cat and mouse in the church front, such a mysterious legend! I wonder if a hawk ever tried to grab a free meal from the church, if so, he certainly came away with nun....I mean, none.

Kim, I remember reading last year that you werre in Arizona and visited Tombstone, I read it a couple of days after you'd posted. That is so exciting, so you saw the San Xavior Mission too? It is so beautiful. One of my favorite memories growing up across the desert from my home, though it was miles away, there was an unobstructed view from my house. I love it so much! Keep me up to date on your visit :) I'm excited for you!

I've seen the mission, and know of its history from up close observations, its really beautiful and an iconic scene of the Southwest :) My uncle's brother, a priest, loved to attend the church on his visits to the Sonoran Desert, and has graced it with more beautiful memories in my esteem, at least in my heart. I love it :)
