Outage
The thunder boomed; the lights went out.
The air was close and still.
Without the fans, we really couldn’t
Close our eyes and chill.
Our little lantern pierced the dark,
Its double A’s still pepped
And somehow, as the rain poured down,
Eventually, we slept.
Two hours passed; my lamp blinked on.
I felt a cooling breeze;
The power back, providing
Circulation to appease.
The heat’s been wreaking havoc;
Guess we have to learn to cope.
This pattern should be ending soon –
At least that’s what we hope.
