Our Burden
The time we spent together
Is but a frozen moment in memory
Of the two of us
. . . Alone . . .
. . . Unseen . . .
But by God.
No one knows what joys,
What ecstasies, we felt
As we traced the sadness down . . .
And left it
By the path
. . . Forgotten . . .
Until the morning rays of light revealed,
In each of us,
The emptiness of that drifting moment,
. . . Already gone . . .
And we found the sadness
We’d put down,
To carry it once more
. . . A greater burden . . .
