Only English Poems Are Allowed

It's too bad there are only English poems allowed, For I found the most beautiful poem, the most exact, precise, lush, and sustainable string of words. But they are from another planet, A separate universe, An odd community. But the words, Their meaning, Transfixes time, Melts the moment. Decries of new gods. Turns the very grains of sand into jellybeans. But, alas, I cannot share it. Only English language poems are allowed. Thanks. Okay, I'll give you the first line: dlskfh[roeihujn wepfjwpei pweifjw'efipj. If you knew what that meant. It would change your world forever.

Yes, Rilke is my all-time favorite poet, the only poet in which I have one of his poems framed in my house. Thanks for your kind words. I would love to see your poem. Rilke is the BEST in my book.

Hi Matt: I agree with you. One of the most profound exercises I have done was choosing a poem in a foreign language and writing a poem from the feelings I got from the reading words. I chose one of Rainer Marie Rilkes poems. I came fairly close in a lot of the meaning but it was freeing to just write anything. No rules and not really a translation as it was to be done without looking up the words on Babelfish. Will share on my pages if I can find it. Nice to read you. SuZ

Well, regardless of Milton and Jeff, I loved your poem. :) I think there are many interpretations of it. (I believe I've heard that mysterious first line somewhere...)

I understand what you are saying, Matt. As far as I'm concerned some of the poems we get here resemble another language, ha! In spite of what Jeff said, I understood what you meant perfectly! So, I reckon my world is changed forever, eh? Enjoyed it.

This is what the Vogon category is for, but I do think you transposed the fifth and sixth letters of the third word…

True! True, but I do believe subject/verb agreement is essential in "dlskfh[roeihujn wepfjwpei," don't you? I mean, really........

Jeff, I think you are totally wrong about this. It is not the transposed letters. It is the tense of the third word, as the first word subject requires!
