One Roseate Portrait of Your Smile

Was e’er a moment held so calm, To dull and silhouette our lives, Like Tithoneus weeping with the dawn, Should find Elysium in those eyes Uncloth’d, my mind in tearful thoughts concedes, A vision of thee ‘neath the moon, I gently press my will toward thee, And ever vex my soul with you Yea! Thy beauty finds me vex’d, As tho’ some poet never told, With words, yet eloquently breath’d, Of all the wonders that ye hold One roseate portrait of your smile, Like an opera well rehears’d, Sets this savage soul on fire, And bids me as the desert thirst My passions know no other bounds, Like silhouettes these words confine, My soul, one tear opaques me now, And births an opera in my mind One vision how the Nile runs, Strange goddess to this tear, In other moments melts the sun, And then thy beauty with the night appears!
