One Cold Night

Out of the snow, one cold night in December while a snow storm howled and moaned. With a book I sat in comfort by the front door When above the noise of the blizzard came a mournful, frightful howl. Startled,I went to the door. I searched thru the snow with a flashlight til I had almost given up,but once more with my hand on the door knob came a whine of a pup. I had made up my mind to scold it and send it away, half freezing myself in that blizzard. I found it at last in the snow drift half frozen and stiff. His cold little body shivering and I just could not make him go. With his small puppy eyes he implored me not to send send him away in the storm and as I knelt closer to see him he placed a cold paw on my arm. Once more I sit here by the fireplace each time I look in his direction a friendly tail thumps on the floor. He watches me,every moment. You would think he had known just what I say with his glad puppy eyes. He says thank you and I am glad that I let him stay. My new best friend. Written by: Misty D. Burress
