Once Forbidden
When did yesterday fade,
Why would I choose to turn away?
When you alone knew me,
Only you understood all that was said
And I need not have uttered a word,
My life has faded with each passing year
With every flicker of light, I am gone
In my dreams, you are there,
Holding my hand, once forbidden,
Now, only ashes remain, of what once was
Of memories, in the rubbles of paper,
That once so brightly lit, with each letter
With the laughter, that we shared
And now, continents away,
Do you remember me?
I do, I remember all that was,
Our forbidden love, unspoken,
Scathed with all the interruptions,
Of our families, of those not willing
To believe that love existed,
I am grateful for those few moments,
Yet, is it so selfish to want you, even now
Now, our little ones are here,
And with time they’ll grow
And then, will you come back to me?
