Old Thatched Pub

Old Thatched Pub In an old thatched pub in Dunnsmore for at least 300 years The townsfolk gathered nightly for laughter and for beers The music it was lively, the laughter it was loud You couldn’t find a finer place or meet a better crowd Paddy’s on a barstool, his dogs lay at his feet Molly was a barmaid, that’s how they chanced to meet Paddy said he loved her, she said she loved him too They pledged their love forever before the night was through But Molly didn’t know that Paddy had a wife And when she met dear Molly, she stabbed her with a knife Paddy drinks alone now, his wife is doing time Molly’s in the graveyard and for Molly we all pine Let this be a lesson if you walk through that pub door Share a pint and laughter but never nothing more

I like it… Early James Joyce, (before he became too ivory tower academic.) A rollicking romp, Mike, in the best Irish tradition. ~ gw
