Old Man's Lament

OLD MAN’S LAMENT Poor irving Berlin – “Put on your Easter bonnet And frills upon it” - Wouldn’t he get just deathly ill At today’s Easter Parade There are no bonnets Instead girls wear nose rings Guys with drooping pants There are no crooners no Bing Just rock bands with loud drummers ................................................................. Young folk may not agree with my poem, but I say, "Take that, ya young whipersnappers!"

The good old days weren't so bad were they? Love your take on the new generation, I'm glad to not be part of all the noise.

Enjoyed your interpertation of today's culture..They call it the y generation..Just look at the back of the young men walking down the street and you will know why..Just the creative pen flowing..Sara

i only have one thing to say about this poem, i wish i would have written it first. I could not agree with you anymore, you are so right, what would irving Berlin say about the today parade's. why do the kids do that ////, who would want to kiss a girl with a nose ring or even one on her lips, what are they thinking. loved this poem. thank you for your comments on Sounds of Spring.

Love the note you put in the end here, Dave ;) and yup times sure have changed-- and yup have to agree with you-- those pants where you see guys' boxers, haha wouldn't know whether you should tell them to just leave out the pants or pull it up! & thanks, I listened in on Poor Butterfly-- the one sung by Th Platters---& I checked out the lyrics, what a sad song, but beautiful in its own way... thanks for letting me know about it :D hugs :)

Aw, what's the big deal about these bonnets anyhow Daver? I used to make one out of cardboard for my mom, every Easter. I'd think it was comely, she must have found it homely, cause she never wore the darn thing! No wonder why there are so many "whipersnappers".:) Oh well, wishing you and yours the best!! Mikki

hahaha, I love the bottom line you put. I hate those loud rock bands too, and I am a child of the 60's and 70's!! I love a big variety from crooners to pop. I was so disappointed tonight when CAsey, the cool jazz singer got voted off Idol. I really like your tanka set here.

We still have the Easter Parade in New Jersey down the Atlantic City boardwalk shore... and it is fancy and fun..but those who view the parade.. in short shorts and tank tops and droopy pants as u wrote... comfort rather than class sometimes ...the old ..but good ..days seems to have faded my friend ..but u keep them alive with your great words.. luv..
