Oh Those Blues

My blues, haunting sounds I take out on my acoustic guitar. Spiced up melodies, finger picking out my blues my way. Those bends, holding down a string, subtle scooping of a note, Hitting the sweet spot on those bends, oh those bends I play. The blues I feel deep within my bones, freeing my soul way down. The licks mean something when they come out of my guitar. Picking is my way to release my pain, developing my own tone. When they come out, the only soul I have to play with is my own. My face says it all, soulfulness, sorrow, love and the getting hurt. Sounds of my blues come from within, deep within my heart. Singing all the sadness, and pain, the disappointments of my life. The experiences made me who I am. You can hear it in my voice. I have to go deep down to the depths of my soul where sun shines, And muck is stored deep within my gut. A sad lonely place, blues. Expressing with music releases all my pains that needs to come out. My face says it all, a soulful bluesy release valve, creating calm within. 01/31/2013 For Becca Lucas's contest, "Chasing The Blues Away"

Oh what I'd give to have such an outlet!...I remember Les Paul calling his a bartender, psychiatrist, best friend, mistress and wife (something like that) and B.B. King even went so far as to named his Lucille...I would sure love to hear you belt out da' blues sometime...Congratulations - Tim

connie, I read what you said to me below. WEll, I took lessons on guitar when I was forty and even diligent practice after two years, I still sucked at it. the other day I took my guitar after ten years not playing . Horrible, I had forgotten half the stuff I learned. What a tragedy.

Not a tragedy. Just think with a little practice chords will come back easily. Probably faster then when your first started learning the guitar. Strum those strings and get back in. Warm Smiles, Connie

It'll be almost another year before I can do any practicing. Sometime in May I'll have my 2nd surgery and I'm still recovering from cervical surgery. Big brace on my neck for at least another month. If not for this special stand that holds my IPad directly In front of my face, I wouldn't be tapping out poems.

wow, what a GREAT way to do this contest. I had no idea you played. I took it up in my late 30's and practiced diligently but I am VERY bad. After ten years not practicing, I have nearly forgotten what I ever managed to learn. aRe you able to keep up with it very well, connie? How wonderful that you can play and to do the blues so naturally. I have to have the dang book right in front of me telling me which chords to play. Love this.

At age 50 I learned how to play piano. At age 60 I self-taught the guitar. It was a little easier because I knew many chords, but when I started I didn't even know what a fret was. I play looking at sheet music, and have Blues Unleashed CDs that has helped me learn the blues. I enjoy fooling around with finger picking and some licks locked up in my room. I won't play even in front of my husband. Thanks for your comment. Warm Smiles, Connie

You are talented in two areas.... and I imagine the music from your guitar is as sweet as the music from your words...

I wished my guitar playing was as sweet a this poem but not so. I haven't played in a year because of cervical problems and recently a cervical surgery. But this is what I feel in within when I listen to the blues or play some of the licks or bends on my guitar. Thanks Donna for your comment and for stopping by. Warm Smiles, Connir

Well Harry I hate to let you down my poetry is much better then my playing guitar. I'd be laughed off stage. In my mind I play as my written words say, but I play privately shut away and play my chords strumming away for only me and my soul and nobody else. Thanks for commenting on my poem warm Smiles, Connie
