Ode To the Hydrangea

ODE TO THE HYDRANGEA Misunderstood little Mophead, They call her ‘Changing Rose’, Her colour comes from the soil And the acidity in which she grows. Chorus: Water in her name, Water in her veins. Blue Azorean stranger, Nothing rhymes with Hydrangea. Graceful in the half-sun, She turns pink with added lime. At home in the Himalayas, Found globally over time. Water in her name, Water in her veins. Blue Azorean stranger, Nothing rhymes with Hydrangea. Not a flower but a shrub, Grandiflora and Annabelle Splash their petals radiant, A most hardy perennial. Water in her name, Water in her veins. Blue Azorean stranger, Nothing rhymes with Hydrangea.

I love the poem but hate the flower which always reminds me of the pillbox hats old women used to wear in the fifties and sixties. Perhaps your poem will force me to give them a second look.

Phil, thanks for visiting PUPPY LOVE. I appreciate it much. So I revisted one of my fave flowers ... my Dad had had a green hand (Why do folks usually point to a finger? Best to bless the entire hand). I do not think divorce works: adultery is what Bible calls second & subsequent marriages. It has the kindness to sanctify widows & widowers remarrying. The BIBLE remains the true fount of all wisdom of any lasting value. amen and shalom Friend/Campione/Mester/Combattant

Congratulation on getting the PotD Phil. I'll make sure to add lime to the soil from now on, as I like them pink. Would extra lime bring them to purple? It's going to bloom in my favorites. A 7 in pink and purple:) Amitiés

Love it. So, if i add lime to my water, will it turn pink? Especially liked the witty bits on "coloring" Hydrageas. Will Aurelia or Artemesia rhyme? If you insist, Phil, how about the Dutch for Yes (Ja), or Orange (Oranje)? Shalom shalom, Deo

Well done Phil and I do love the blue ones. Up here in Canada we only see them mostly in hot houses and for sale in Spring and Summer but they don't last long here unless kept as a potted plant. Nice flow and great imagry here. Loved it. God Bless, JB
