Now's the Time To Speak
Now's The Time To Speak
© Ben Burton 1-10-2015
It's so damned hard to lose someone
Who's always been a part of you
To pick back up and carry on
Enduring living's worst abuse
Without regret for those things done
But, oh, the things you didn't do
While watching death's first setting sun
And knowing dawn can't be renewed
But wishing for another chance
To simply take a walk outside
A shoulder hug or hand-in-hand
With no emotion left denied
For time is precious by and by
And one will vanish through the doors
The words withheld are lost in time
Can't be applied on earthly shores
It's strange how something with no cost
Creates a fortress, makes us blind
And we become afraid to cross
That bridge which leads to peace of mind
With consciousness a fleeting thing
Embarrassment should not deter
The heart's desire to gently bring
The loving thought to spoken word
And yet, most people cannot change
The paranoia deep within
Until they get the awful taste
The loss of mother, son, best friend
For, though the warning signs abound
It's human nature, after all
The world continues spinning round
While most withhold their warmest thoughts
No soapbox needed to express
What has been said ten thousand times
There's little hope for no regrets
But now's the time to speak... before those last goodbyes
