Nowhere To Go
She donned a lavender dress
With her best shoes to match
Rings on her fingers
And on her shoulders her hair sat
Lips as red as rubies
Eyes pierced with gold
A soft liveliness was there
But showed not as bold
A hat of straw and flowers
With a ribbon tied around
Completed the outfit's look
But the lady
She was down
Staring out the window
And used her feet to tap the floor
Close to tears she was
But what did she long for
Not a carriage made of silver
Nor a Duke or a marque
As painted fingernails tapped the glass
While she counted (One two Three)
The outside was so bright
But her room was in the dark
The curtains slightly opened
Enough to hear a dog bark
Her beauty was not grand
Or at a lower status
It was somewhat in between
But oh why did it matter
Dust clustered the room
And the doors were shut tight
She was a bird trapped in a cage
With no hope of flight
Her voice was raspy and shrewd
And not flattering in any way
Because if she uttered a word
Her fear would start again
Once she had riches
More then she could ever ask for
And then life was ripped away from her
So she stayed silent and cried no more
For here she sits day by day
Like a river with no flow
The lady was all dressed up
But she had nowhere to go
