Now I Know

Now I know the burden of pain. The true malevolence of the world. My eyes were blinded, my emotions deceived, My dreams all a wild fantasy. Once upon a time, I was under the impression That life was a joy, all fun and games. An illusion of grandeur. Now I know the destruction of war. The killing machines it creates. Dehumanized, robotized. We were animals who could not think for themselves. Now I know the reality of battle. Sides separated by only the color of a uniform. All hatred is lost, any hope is crushed. Survival is the only motivation to move on. I have witnessed the horrors of death. Experienced the brutality of war. Deprived of my youth and innocence. Witnessed brothers die in front of my own two eyes. Now I know.

Jacob, I assume you are young. For some reason, if you are, you are an amazing writer. I truly mean when I say that, I still remember, your werewolf poem, about your brother. Even that poem was the most entertaining I've read in that category. This poem is deep, and it show you can write just about anything... HUGS... LINDA

Hi, Thank you so much for the comment! I am indeed young. Thanks for all of your praise! You have no idea how much it means to me! Your comment made my day! I can't believe you haven't forgotten about my werewolf poem from nearly THREE YEARS ago! That was when my interest in poetry first sparked. Now, with the support of such wonderful poets like you, I feel so much joy writing poems and being able to share them with this community. I've been pretty inactive lately, but hopefully I'll be able to come back here more often! Thanks again! -Jacob

I wrote this for history class pertinent to World War II. It is told in the perspective of a veteran soldier, scarred by the war. Enjoy!
