No ball games, keep out, no access and please keep off the grass, restricted zone, no entry here unless you show your pass. Stay clear, don't go beyond this point, warning! Electric fence! (you could tell by the transformer- unless of course, you're dense). Remember childhood playing outside, all bumps and scrapes and scuffs? You lived by using common sense, and if you didn't- tough. Public information films said don't go flying kites near pylons, swim in quarry lakes, in case the foolish might. But now we're wrapped in cotton wool and everyone's just fine but freedom's being washed away- if you can see the signs.............

Where I live in France is more like Britain or the USA was in the fifties. It's not a problem here, fortunately. Best wishes, Julia

G'day Viv... I yearn for the days of 'monkey see-monkey do,' because as you stated in your poem, this does not happen today. The fun police are in charge and that means a sterile environment for the kids. No wonder they buck the system. Thanks Viv - Lindsay

Thanks, Laurie. i cherish my childhood- rope swings, paddling, almost drowning, then learning to swim, jumping through a hedge unaware of the barbed wire.....wouldn't have changed it for anything. A proper childhood :)

Viv, this is so well written, and love the subject. Yes, according to modern rhetoric/laws, we should have all died without a helmet, without seat belts, without, etc., etc.

Thanks David. Yes, too much mollycoddling going on today (just an excuse to use the word 'mollycoddling'- haven't heard it since my late Mother used it)

Such a clever write Viv and sadly true - think we escaped with a few cuts and bruises when we were kids - its so sad nowadays so many children are stuck indoors on computers - we are going to end up with very unhealthy children and i know obesity is a big problem these days:-( Hugs Jan xx 7 xx

Tnanks for the 7, Jan. I can't remember as a kid any child having nut allergies, asthma, and I can't recall any fat ones. We ate well but played well. Now, the only fresh air and exercise they get is playing Candy crush with the window open :) xx
