Embarrassing moments .. oh I guess we’ve all had a few But this is one is so memorable so I will share it with you! My hubby had become friends with Dave through work and we had been invited for a Chinese meal with him and his girlfriend I had never met them before and was a little bit nervous The restaurant we went to was very posh Dave and Tracey had eaten there the week before We all got on like a house on fire and laughed all night The conversation flowed, as did the wine. We had a delicious meal and it was then time to order dessert Banana fritters were on the menu, my mouth watered at the thought Oh I simply adore banana fritters drizzled with golden syrup We all agreed to have the same dessert Dave’s eyes lit up and he called the waiter over he ordered ‘banana fritter specials’ … winked at the waiter and they both laughed We continued chatting whilst we waited for our desserts to arrive Suddenly the other diners went quiet and then they started to laugh I turned round to see two waiters striding across the room Each carrying two plates with our desserts Yes banana fritters … but not like I had EVER witnessed before or since The banana had been cooked with two ‘dough balls’ one on either side and had been arranged on the plate so that the banana was ‘upright’ A blob of cream at the top of the banana fritter completed the effect By the time this phallic pudding was placed in front of me my face was as red as a tomato and I was crying with laughter. I wanted the floor to open up and engulf me I was so embarrassed as everyone was laughing at us Somehow we all managed to eat our desserts It was the best banana fritter I’ve ever tasted - and definitely the most memorable! We became great friends with Dave and Tracey but never went back to that restaurant again This happened in 1991 and is a 100% true story! You should have given the name of the place, after all, they could probably use the publicity...lol. Great write and it made me smile to think of that desert heading to your table. Congrats on the win.

Jan, are you sure you were in a respectable restaurant and not a porn shop?! Lily-white me, I'd have protested and walked out. A unusual but funny poem. Thanks for stopping by. Keep us laughing. / M

It was actually a very posh restaurant Maurice lol:-) hugs Jan xx

Very funny indeed. The topic does affect us all a bit since it is generally not for public consumption and thus your appropriate use of the word "reluctant". The folks in the restaurant were probably all a bit jealous, since no one really wants to be repressed all that much! You are, as always, hilarious!! It is also wonderful that you have chosen to share this with all of us. May you have nothing but good times and wonder in each and every day. Bananas are special for homemade deserts.

I read the poem to my hubby before I posted it and it brought back so many memories - we are now trying to trace Dave and Tracey as we lost touch many years ago. I think I'm a walking disaster area when it comes to desserts as my first poem here was on that subject - will stick to mains when we go out tonight with mum lol:-) hugs Jan xx

There is a pic on line but not with the banana fritter 'standing upright' how they got it to stay on the plate like that was a miracle but it was so embarrassing at the time lol:-) hugs jan xx

Thank you for the laugh, Jan:) And knowing that it really happened adds to the flavour. Good thing the wine had flowed...! Hugs // paul

There is no poetic licence here Paul - Bob laughed so much when i read the poem to him last night. I WISH we had had a camera at the time Paul ... but then again the image is deeply ingrained in my brain - we are going to try and re establish contact with them if we can :-) hugs jan xx

Writing the poem has spurred us on to try and regain contact with Dave and Tracey - we lost touch when we moved to the Island - hubby is going through his old work filofax to see if he can find a number - filofax - gee that was such a world away in time now - all done on phones now:-( hugs Jan xx

I was so so embarrassed Scott - Dave and Tracey had seen this 'dessert' the first time they went to the restaurant and took the opportunity to order it when we went out with them - makes me smile now to reminisce ... and the first poem i posted here was also about a dessert - maybe I should just stick to mains in the future lol :-) hugs Jan xx

Even though I knew what was coming, I still laughed. Well told, Jan, and how wonderful (and memorable) a night. ... It left me wondering how your night ended, but don't answer that...LOL ~ Lin ~

LOL Lin I would never tell lol - I have never been served a banana fritter like it - how they managed to get it to stand upright on the plate was a miracle but it was so so funny - I read this to my hubby last night and we were both laughing at the memory:-) hugs Jan xx
