No Escaping

In my prime I hurtled around the track My competitors floundering at my back, Titles and medals, many won Accolades, a victors plaque. Slowed down some in middle age Wiser too, if not sage, Aware now of worldly things, Hormones no longer boil and rage. Old age now comes to the fore A time of life that I deplore, Living now on memories Of things that I can do no more. Nowdays I just sit and wait I can feel my mind stagnate, Can't be helped it's just life There's no escaping, 'tis but fate.

What a beautifully expressed and soulful poem, Gary. You've captured the zest, wisdom and ultimately, the dismay of a long life, when outliving your capability of living a purposeful life is so depressing. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Seems as though I drink a little more wine the older I get, it never seems to quench my thirst. Maybe I'm spending more time on memories of what could have been than what could still be...
