Nights Song
Stars sing the nights song
Chiming voices depict a complex realm.
When I was a child, Sky was full of stars;
twinkling, flashing, dancers on their black canvas stage;
so many finally succumbed to toxic clouds;
dinner for acidic vipers birthed by human hands.
They claim that humans are the greatest of animals,
yet they are the most destructive.
I think of all of the wishes I have made on stars
and wonder if they could even hear me?
Or did my own kind slowly poison them
as I lay on the grass wishing?
We teach children to wish on the stars, but,
don’t tell them that their wishes will never come true.
