Night Vent
Awake too soon
awake in the dark
dark too familiar to fear
first foe, now friend
minutes pass like falling snow
time stopped
sun looming
sun lurking
somewhere near
out of sight
passing beneath my feet
circling
circling
great
white
coming at me fast
ready to seize me with the sharp enamel of its rays
I sit
In the dark
Awake
in the dark
Watching the sleeping wind roll over in its blanket of leaves
But only a moment
nothing really moves
except for the sun
coming at me fast
