Night Calls

Of all that is nature, I admire… the song of night is best. The frogs and birds and insect writhe, the breeze in trees undressed. Do you hear the whistling train, the sounds of far off laughter? Can you cull the lullaby sung... the peace that we’re all after? The hoot of owl, the bark of dog the crackle of a fireplace The whirl of wheels on roadway as homeward fathers race. The creak of steps, the tone of clock, the call of wild cats mating, each tone rings loud upon the ear of man, as sun’s abating. So, I long, for the deep dark night, when sounds are few and cautious, when dreams flit by on fluttering eye about our loved ones, oh so, precious. Poet:D. Guzzi Date:9/27/11

It's 4:15 here and my babe is about to wake from her afternoon nap, and I had been thinking of working on a haiku, but reading this was a better choice. Lovely words, lovely sentiments, lovely piece. :-) Cheers, Cyndi

Hi Debbie :) I sure am glad that Frank told me about this-- it truly is beautiful and very serene :) I myself am an owl -- uh see past 3am here?? and it's just a wonderful time --this one sort of reminded me of one of my own poems, Quietude...Enjoyed reading this very much!

Yes, night has its own sounds..Sometimes they are wonderful like the wind through the chimes then sometimes they are annoying like a barking howling dog that won't stop..Enjoyed reading your very descriptive, expressive, and poetic work..Sara

What a beauty here Debbie! I love the night and the best thing that occurs many times in the night, save the crickets, is the sound of train whistles as you have mentioned in your poem! I love that sound, and I grew up hearing that week after week and grew to love it...I still do! Ah what beauty, in just the sound of a whistle! Thanks for bringing up such pleasurable memories!
