Night

Night Darkness enveloped me in an impenetrable, sinister pall, A fathomless, murky expanse, an impregnable wall. I tried in vain to come out of it, but I tried and tried in vain, It held me in an inextricable grip, an inescapable looming bane. I heard the sonorous cricket chirp from the dew-drenched grass, I saw the soft white light of the myriads of twinkling stars, I felt the cool breeze rustling through the gently swaying trees, I was bathed in a sensation of tranquillity and enduring peace. There was such intoxicating beauty in the fire flies’ sudden spark, No sound was more soothing than the jackal’s cry in the dark, Slowly, very slowly, unknowingly my eyes closed in blissful sleep, There is no elixir salubrious, as in the night one’s slumber deep. Dear Brita, Welcome to Poetry Soup. Your rhyming is wonderful, your imagery terrific, and your message clear and sound. Sleep is a powerful healer, an elixir in herself. Well done indeed!
