Nice To Meet You
Our eyes meet across the room.
I know you want to say hello.
We both wait with intrepidation.
Which one of us will make the first move?
You turn your attentions back to friends.
I keep looking at the art on the wall.
You smile the smile of a man in charge.
I slink forward to the punch bowl.
You decide to make the first move.
With a hand stretched out you say hello.
I greet you back with a smile of my own.
You seem to be intrigued wanting more.
Conversation buzzing around us.
Talking heads seem to blur
We are the only ones here and now.
A connection that is warm and true.
Excuse me I didn't catch the name.
I repeat it with a breathy sigh.
Your voice sounds deep with delight.
Our duologue continues into the night.
