New Years Day

Upon awaking this new years day To think about your face, I, a different way For within that moment I had riddled some sense From my body which began to tense As to hold my mind at bay I might compare the’ to midsummer’s day But I with fear rebuke Dare not repeat Shakespeare’s fluke So shall I compare to you instead, a season And to Christmas in this reason While your skin looks not like snow But rather a chestnut beside a fire’s glow And your hair upon light shines bright Reflects snow whisking through this night Alas these bodily beauties do the’ justice not For to Hallmark Christmas I compare the’ not But rather your spirit of which I speak That embodies Christmas every week A gentleness upon your finger’s tips That forever echoes from your lips With sincerity in thy acts A potent remedy, for this world lacks From battlefields to warring grounds a stronger heart could not be found In deepest pain or conflict bound your voice speaks out, no harmful sound With eagerness your mind immerse To every art form, its joyful verse And with said joy does come a smile That in the coldest hearts affection riles So it is upon this new years day That by your side I long to lay
