New Cheer
Twinkling lights and candles bright
Dotted here and there
And music playing into the night
People everywhere
Laughter tinkles like so many bells
Glasses chink and chime
Jokes fired around like magic spells
Ridiculous and sublime
People dancing like many an autumn leaf
A twisting in the breeze
Inhibitions are missing as if stolen by a thief
Pace picking up by degrees
Glasses are filled with every colour
Orange red and white,
Loosing tongues so everything a holler
Shouts drifting in the night
Faces flushed red with seasons cheer
Many smiling faces
Gentlemen knocking back cans of beer
Engaging in races
Then the chimes of midnight start
To a resounding cheer
Everyone takes it to their heart
Wishing happy new year
