Nevermore,

Raven

Begone, thou creature hovering o’er my door Your ebony feathers evoke my anger My dear Lenore was swept up in your wings Nevermore to share her love with me February 19, 2020 For Charles Messina’s “Poe-etic” verse contest

Are you sure you are not related to Poe himself (lol) Such a great write, Carolyn. You have captured Poe's poetry spot on. Love this! Congratulations on your winning poem. Hope you are doing well, dear friend. Hugs Charlie x

LOL Thank you, Charles. In my first year of college, my speech teacher had me record "The Raven" so other students could enjoy it. I can be somewhat "dramatic." Hugs, Carolyn

Carolyn, nice use of the raven, Lenore, and the one word we always associate with Poe - nevermore! Congrats on your #1 ~ John

powerful Carolyn... the raven symbolizes death so the meaning is there with your vivid imagery...feels very poe like to me... best wishes in the contest, though I think this one will do well... hugs

I feel the tone of Poe's rhythm in your poem--apt for the theme, Carolyn. He too expressed sorrow for the loss of Lenore. Best for a win my friend.

I think "The Raven" was the first poem I ever heard. My sister read it to me when I was about five. I love everything by Poe, but this poem stays in my memories.

Wonderfully crafted Carolyn. This was as chilling as anything Poe could have written. I loved this. Best wishes in the contest

Thanks for reading, Chris. I think there is a bit of Poe in each of us.
