Never Go Back To What Was Never Found

Never go back to look for them, those things you lost, not just things, like your hair, or a favorite pocket knife. Remember 'Teddy Boys' ? You were born too late to wear the slim suited, drain pipes, velvet collared - all that duck-assed brylcreemed cut, so why keep looking for what was never you? There was a time when you were always au courante, always abreast of yourself. Billy the Kid had nothing on your swagger. Oscar Wilde and Dorian Gray packaged for eternity, Bogey and Becall - bundled, but you kept going back to look for what you missed and so missed the train to Dorking Surry, and never met that girl.

Enjoyed reading this poem and indeed the others I have managed so far to take in. I am new to the site and found your work a stand out in terms of originality, command of language and the way you interpret the world, seems uniquely your own. There's a sharpness I find refreshing and a candour that has almost an Australian irreverence to it.....hence the resonance. I shall continue to follow your work. Regards, Paul Willason

Hello Paul, thank you for these glowing words, they are very much appreciated. There is no reason to be falsely modest I suppose, but it has taken me a long tome to get to a place where I have developed my own voice. I am afraid that I am not at all involved it the Poetry Soup site. I use it to store my poetry in mainly, but its always good to receive such positive reviews from time to time. I am an Ex Pat Englishman (of Irish descent) now living in Ohio. All the very Best EA.
