My Visitor
I heard a quiet, curious sound
Like the beating of a tiny wing
Dropped my rake and looked around
For some hidden fairy-tail thing
That's when my heart began to sing
Around my head a burst of green
With a glorious scarlet breast
The most wonderful bird Id ever seen
With wings that never came to rest
Oh lovely, my little garden guest
For several months it stayed with me
Flitting here and hovering there
I think a nest high in my tree
It seemed we had no earthly care
The summer of my hummingbird affair
