My Stepfather

Remember those days when I was a child Always in trouble always so wild I was carefree and curious and in everyone's hair I didn't dare start any trouble cause' I knew you were there You were tough, but kind strict, yet stern You grounded me often in hope that I'd learn I was constantly talking I was constantly loud All I wanted in life was for you to be proud You taught me a lot you taught me so well I have finally listened I hope you can tell So, If you wonder do I love you I will tell you don't bother 'Cause My Dad is My Dad But you were always my Father In memory of my stepfather 02/2017

It is nice when a stepparent knows what a privilege it is to raise a child and what a responsibility. You were fortunate to have him and I am sure he was fortunate too. Great poem. Love, joyce

I am sure he is very proud of you. One day my step dad said to me " if your Dad was alive he would be so proud of you." that was a wonderful gift he gave to me. Unlike my Dad my step dad was always there for me.

That is really special. My mom has done that with some of mine as well.

Thanks Richard for reading another one of my poems. My stepfather loved this poem and he framed it. He is getting old and I just wanted him to know how I felt.

I can relate to this poem, because I had a stepfather, too. But, unfortunately we never really got along that well. You expressed your feelings very well in this poem. Very good work, Roger!...Thank you very much for the kind congrats on my poem!

Just read your note down here for me. You are luckier than me. My stepdad passed away and my real dad is still alive but we will never be close as you were able to become with yours.

Dear Andrea, I am not close to my stepfather. But what I do hold in my heart is first forgiveness and then that releases the love, This poem that I wrote was not just for him, but I think it was more for me to know that I am going to be ok now. Your friend... Roger

what a wonderful poem for a stepdad. I had one of those. Sadly, he was not much better for me than my real dad. But he was ok. At least he provided for our needs!!

Thank you Andrea, My stepfather was not much of a dad. My real Dad was not much of a Dad. But they both tried. My real father and I are really close now. But my stepfather and I did not get along. He is in his 80's now and does not have too many years left. I do love them both. My step father was the provider. I wanted him to know how much I loved and appreciate him for being the only father I had at that time. So I wrote him this poem. Roger

Thank you Jancarl for your nice words about my poem and how it reminded you of your father. I would love to read a new poem from you. You talk about how your Father was your best friend. Will you write a poem about your father and title it " My Best Friend " Put all of that wonderful emotion and memories that you hold so close to your heart into it. P.S. You will know when it is ready to post. And If you cry during the writing of your poem. The love that you hold so dear to your heart will just flow out of you. Your new friend in poetry. Roger
