My Quest

I profess not to oppress Yet I stand on native land In my quest to be my best As I try to understand How someone else could say To someone in their way Your rights you must relinquish Your flame we shall extinguish It cuts me to the bone And eats away my pride Searching for my roots And finding genocide Searching madly for a word One I've never even heard Any other is absurd Since a spade is not a bird But all I have are words How can I make it right How can I close my eyes When I try to sleep at night I listen and I grieve Right here on my duff Heaven surely knows That will never be enough For all of my existence Though I am but a wretch For all that I hold dear I've learned to say .. miigwetch
