My Poor Stinky Love

Oh, how I loved my little teddy bear although I don’t recall from whom he came or when I first laid eyes on him or where; I only know I chose for him his name. Yes, Pinky Winky’s name was like my own, a playful silly nickname “Andy Pandy,” and also in his ear a bell was sewn; I jingled him and thought he was quite dandy. Everywhere with me went Pinky Winky until he met sad fate with one cruel splash. He fell into the toilet and got stinky. I wailed when Mother threw him in the trash. Alas! The pink imposter in his place no jingling made nor had dear “Winky’s” face.

Ah, the heartbreaks of childhood. How I imagine you wailed that day, having your friend succumb to the indignities of a trash can burial. Well written, Andy Pandy.

This ode to Pinky Winky is a precious write, I just love that it's true. Mine was my 'pee-a' (small pillow) that disappeared while I was at school one day (1st or 2nd grade.) I carried it everywhere I went, rubbed my finders on it and sucked my tongue (yes, tongue - bend it backwards and go to town.) Can't imagine why Mama threw it out! I adore this and thank you for taking the time to find it and rename it! Love ... CayCay

I so love this write Andrea. It is everything I am about. Sacred love. There are loves that can never be replaced. Wrapped in the innocence of childhood it is so much more important.

To hard to replace a friend like, Pinky Winky. Maybe if your mother had thrown him in the washing machine life would have gotten back to normal. Very cute and very well written.... Robert.

Too bad you didn't fish him out of the trash, give him a shower and pop him in the dryer or better yet, hang him up on the clothes-line (the dryer might have shrunk and ruined the poor little soul) Oops!...I forgot about the bell in his ear (never mind)...Congrats my friend...not surprised - Tim

Andrea, congratulations on your second place with this touching poem. My oldest daughter had a Teddy she took everywhere. As the years passed and she moved away teddy was left behind. I mentiond him to her and she told me to get rid of all the things she left behind. Several years later l reminded her again of how she told me to get rid of teddy and she panicked. She said No, l wanted to keep him, and l laughed and told her he was still safe and here with me. I knew one day she would want him.
