My Old Flag

For Memorial Day My Old Flag The flag sits folded in my den Its stars – just forty-eight For it’s a flag from way back when My father met his fate I never ever knew the man For I was then but three And anything but pictures Is a long lost memory He was an Air Force pilot His plane was there, then gone No enemy activity That they knew of going on They never found the wreckage They just declared him dead So when the search was over Mom got this flag instead That’s almost all that’s left of him And I’m not one to brag But my father gave his life for it And I’m proud of my old flag

Sad, strong write. One day surely war will be no more and our heroes will not need to defend our freedoms. Glad I read this. I hope you send this somewhere... I can see a lot of families of Vets being moved by this. Sincerely, Cyndi
