My Favorite Job
I've worked many years in retail,
With hours that were long,
With the pay being mediocre,
Sometimes it just seemed wrong,
But like many jobs, it had it's perks
One of the best of these, and how it works;
I was a Deptartment Store Toy Buyer,
A job I grew to love,
Cause I never really grew up,
Thank the Gods above!
The annual Toy Fair, each February,
In New York City held,
A mere subway ride for me,
And for a full week I would go,
Come hail, or sleet or snow.
I bought for a 9 store chain,
And although our volume was
on the wane,
The Toy Factories did not know,
And great respect they did show.
I got to see and touch, all the new toys,
And upcoming movies for girls and boys,
It was a real blast,
And as a comic, I was self-cast
So I was privy to Star Wars, and
so many other flicks,
Before anyone else had heard
of these upcoming pics
I enjoyed those fairs, they were
great fun,
And got to hang out with everyone!
In years to come, I'd work furniture fairs,
In North Carolina and San Fran,
But, who cares?
I found the toys a lot of fun
Who could enjoy a style of chairs?
When you enjoy a job, you do it well
And here was the same, as I do tell
So when I was "promoted" to furniture
I still bought the toy department,
Had dual offices and staffs,
And maintained my toy buying
It was lots of laughs!!!
