My Diamond In the Sky
An Anacreontic Verse
A diamond
apple red -
darts and twirls
beyond the string
I guide above
my head.
Above the harbor
now she flees
climbing with the breeze.
She swoops, then makes
a crazy loop.
I follow beneath
her streaming tail
as rising up,
she chases a boat
with billowed sail.
The sun behind her
casts a crimson light.
How she glows,
pursuing masts
till she
abruptly slows.
Now wind blows cold.
My diamond bold
who fancied
herself free
but then forgot
who held her string -
curtailed in flight -
now draws near to me!
