My Daughter Likes Rap

My daughter likes rap Man, that's insane I just saw her whole future Going down the drain I think maybe it's just A malfunction of the brain So, I took her to the doctor But he couldn't explain So I asked why do you like rap You have nothing to gain And you know that type of music Just gives me a pain She said daddy please listen Before you make that call It's not the garbage rap You haven't heard it all Come listen to this track I just bought it at the mall It doesn't have the language Created by minds so small So I listened to the music And was soon having a ball I loved the beat and the rhythm Didn't hear no F words at all So I'm playing it in my car And feeling ten feet tall Hey, there are some rap stars out there Thank you very much Who do not need profanity To put the world in touch They don't need shock words To be used in the clutch They don't blame society They don't need a crutch Again I say to those rappers Thank you very much

I still have a hard time, though my son tells me there is merit to some of it, and I believe him, thanks to his encyclopaedic knowledge of music. Being a jazz drummer myself it's the stultifying beat that upsets me... a super piece as always, seeing both sides of the coin. Best wishes, Keith
