My Darling Buds In May (For My Boys)

Unaware and undeterred, At me watching you so intently, In your cheerful play, I see before me, my baby’s blossom, My darling buds in May. I watch you both in admiration, As you seize each day, each new sensation, Enjoying the dirt, the water, the smell of summer, the warmth of sun, Your laughter fills the air And touches, every one, I wish I could freeze frame these moments, That life did not run by so fast, That forever you could be, knee high to a cricket And wade in a jungle of grass. But in that same slow, heart, beat, I rush you along, in anticipation, Of the men I know you will become, My darling buds in May, My blooming, beautiful, sons.
