The days I live all counted they must be And so I move my beads along the lines What makes this time have meaning so to me Is YOU, my abacus that life defines Your smile of love is captured in a bead Which adds such joy as fingers make it glide A touch, a kiss, a look fulfills each need And multiplied are days in numbered guide I know that soon all beads will reach that place Where end to life is seen in empty beams And so will end for me this time of grace Your love no more to move my days and dreams An abacus of life you’ve been to me You’ve marked each moment and eternity Jade

Lines coated with a writhing incompletion of touch. A struggle for security, while the subconscious has already accepted defeat. Damn.

I like the uniqueness of this poem in which you make comparison to an abacus. Keep counting slowly, make the beauty of this love last as long as possible. Hugs // paul

You have a talent and should write as much as you can to exercise your skills to a fine art....you have it in you to be notable. Great work. Emile. #7 "life in (is) seen"?

Thanks ever so much, Emile. I have made the correction. This is my last dream....I want so much for my work to live on after me. I want my words to touch people's hearts....This is my last dream. Thank you for your kindness to me. Hugs

this is gorgeous, Eileen!!! Great metaphor. I think line ten is typo, needing "is" in place of "in" In case it is entered into a contest!

Interesting metophor. The abacus has infinite possibilities, it adds subtracts divides and multiplies. The beads can be slid back and you can start over again from the beginning. So like the abacus in the hands of God you to are limitless.

Belated happy birthday, sonneteer! just learned of it when I got to read some comments here. This is an apt birthday write, abacus having been a symbol of numbers, as years passing by. Just lovely...Hugs!

Dear Bambi a wonderful write. But I think that your abacus will not end but will be replaced with an instrument of infinite strings and beads that shine with an inner glow when you greet those that you have missed for so long. Love Shane xxx

Yes, dear. Thanks for the messages. I first posted on FJ's poem and others saw it from there. She had written something about aging and at 48, I feel the passage of time. I got a few personal emails from my very close friends on the soup. That was nice. Thanks for dropping by. Glad you liked this piece. Hugs

Thanks, Nandita. I haven't been in the writing mood for some time. I saw a picture of an abacus in a reading book, and the idea wouldn't let me rest. Hugs :)
