Music To My Ears
You were always smooth, like piano keys,
Playing your tunes for a kiss.
I fell in love with the soulful melodies,
That purred like praise from your lips.
I admit I was ignorant of your game;
I was young and naïve and dreamy-eyed.
I thought that love was the heart’s parade,
And swooned when you crooned you were mine.
Then you stopped my parade like a hurricane.
And before I knew what had happened,
You were singing those same, heart-wrenching refrains,
To another “love,” with the same passion.
I watched you, unable to believe my eyes.
But I heard your voice, and my ears couldn’t lie.
