Murder At Night
I saw from my lofty height,
a raving crowd spitting murderous threats,
''hang him''
''burn him''.
then I heard the pleading voice,
''have mercy on me''
but I knew
mercy was a stranger
in this heart
of stone that I beheld.
then at dawn,
the news filtered into my ears,
''there was a murder at night,
there is a corpse lying at your gate''
