Mother's Day
MOTHER’S DAY
The word
“Mother”
When spoken tenderly
And with liquid eye
Conjures
A certain May sweetness
Amiable in every sense dances
A regular tra-lah, tra-lah
Yet there are daily reports
From news mongers
Who would darken the sound and image
These rag hounds prowl the seedy back alleys
Do verbally bite
At the core of sacred motherhood
They slurp the rancid salad with relish
For the sake of flash and black print
Abortion
Neglect
Deformed
Beaten
Abandoned
Murdered!
Just some of the words and situations
Used to defame the angels of life
I hereby protect the word and image
“Mother”
And delete the mere term from all but
my most loving thought
She is the life giver
The care giver
The inspiration for so many great works
And the very essence of filial love
So
Here’s to my mother
On her very special day
From a loving son
