Mother

A banyan tree that shields from tropical summer sun A symbol of selfless love and sacrifice A preserver of values that modernism has shun No praise is enough, no gratitude suffice Her love for her children is like blossom of springs An angel she appears, a fairy she seems It’s a symphony for ears, the lullaby she sings The lullaby that drifts you in the valley of dreams A teacher, a guide, a philosopher, a friend An architect, a builder of beauty and grace A garden of roses that fragrance send Serenity of a lake where ducklings race She suckles her babies with white blood of breasts The hearts yearn for her bosom’s paradise She strains every nerve, sacrifices her rests Burning midnight oil with sleepy eyes The special mothers that God has blessed Maryam, Khadija, Fatema and Asiya Women par excellence, mothers at best Whether in Africa, Asia or the West Mothers are an oasis in the desert of life Their love and passion isn’t for display Chained to the oar in your perils and strife A shower of rain on a hot summer day *** (Dedicated to my mother Begum Najmunnesa, who left me alone in this world at the age of twelve and all the mothers whatever caste, creed, colour, religion and nationality they are. I salute them all) •

Mohammad, Thanks for the n.b. at the bottom of your Mother poem...very nice to know that this poem even applies to me. I was not trying to be flattering...actually, I may be the only mother taking the time to tell you how much they would cherish a poem written like this by any of their children. There is a scripture in the Bible that I read that refers to a child that speaks ill of his/her parent..it says the child causes the bones to rot in the grave. How much more wonderful is the opposite? :)

Gwendole! My poem applies not only to my dear mother but to you and all the mothers in the world. I can't think of any mother that doesn't fit my description. It is time for soul searching for children how much they respect their mothers for the sacrifices they have made and the love and affection they have showered on them. You have aptly quoted the scripture. Qor'an also repeatedly admonishes children and guides how to respect their parents. So much so that Prophet Mohammad, pbuh, said, if prostration was allowed to any person other than God, it would be your mother. .-Mohammad,

This is amazing and deeply written from the depths of a heart that misses his mother. She is revered as sacred by her son in this write. Oh, such a kind and respectful tribute. It is said that if a man adores his own mother, this same type of love transcends to his wife. I f you are married, be sure to read this to your wife often. She will leap with joy to know her spouse is truly poetic! Peace to you. Gwendolen
