MORE THAN EPHEMERA

MORE THAN EPHEMERA A dusty attic one must reorganise Unlabelled boxes trying to hide There will be at least one surprise A diary and postcard tucked inside A letter from a mother at the end Recalling how the father had cried This reply that he never got to send Those painful few days went so fast Broken dreams that time can’t mend These are tokens of a forgotten past That were of momentary significance Now sure that the memories will last One can no longer claim ignorance Nor to hide behind one’s innocence

What an outstanding poem, Howard. I felt poignant nostalgia and gravitated to these words: These are tokens of a forgotten past That were of momentary significance Now sure that the memories will last I was taken by your poem. Wishing you a pleasant evening, Sara
