Monsters lurk within the depths of my soul
feeding upon my primitive urges.
And feigning normalcy, veiled in shadows,
they're invisible, thus invincible.
They exist in-between sane and insane
able to influence reality.
And despite my defenses, wander free,
causing turmoil and havoc in my life.
Fear's an accomplice and effective shield,
ensuring their motives are well concealed.
And probing where there's the least resistance,
they affect who I am and how I feel.
They can corrupt my soul with hate and greed,
gnawing away at my concepts of fair.
And oft twist reality out of shape,
until whatever feels good now feels right.
But when I confront them, they flee inside,
where they get temporarily restrained.
For I can't destroy my inner demons,
my only course is to lock them away.
