Monsters

When you live in a world of monsters … … it is the nice person that scares the h e l l out of you! She thought a slap in the face was a sign of love. She thought being abused was every child’s routine. She thought all adults yelled obscenities and locked their children in the closet. She thought hunger was supposed to be a constant. Why would this person be nice to me? What is their evil plan? I do not deserve these things. I am a bad, bad girl. Daddy and Mommy have told me so.
She feared the nurse who wanted to treat her cuts and bruises. She hated the teacher who asked her how she got a black eye. She resented the neighbor who offered her an ice cream cone.
When you live in a world of monsters … monsters are your norm monsters are what you know and expect monsters are what you hope someday to be Removed from her world of monsters she was L O S T She was lonely
She missed the monsters.
I cry for her every night. Hopefully, someday soon, nightmares will become nightmares and she will fear the monsters. Written and posted on 7-30-13 for the Creative Layouts contest.

The content is heart wrenching......but unfortunately too real. It happens every day, and it is in the paper too often.... Your poem emphasizes even more the horror by the creative layout. Well done, Joe!

A very creative layout indeed. Visually choreographed evoking strong emotion of the despicable monster acts... very creative :)

wow, now THIS is creative layouts. I was gonna try this, but I don't think I can compete!!!! (glad you liked my tangled vines so much) I had seen Vie's poem before, the one you mention in your blog. I noticed at her poem, she was using a name different from what i thought her name was. I wonder if she was posting the poem for a friend?!
