Monster
Those eyes, always those eyes
Eyes that accused what the mouth dared not speak
Faces aside and so left alone
He to himself was forced to keep.
To him, as long as time itself it seemed
They kept away from him, kept away
Every last person in the small village
Though silent, their expressions always seemed to say,
"You are a monster, so we must keep away
Otherwise we definitely will suffer for sure
And our children, no, they cannot play with you
For you are a monster, deep down to your core."
So this, like this, went by his youth
Only himself could he depend upon
In his heart he harbored an incredibly wild dream
To one day be recognized as one of their own.
But they only snickered and laughed behind his back
As he declared and made known his dream
Impossible, impossible, they shook their heads
Will never happen, for it they deemed.
"For you are a monster, and nothing more
Your little fantasies are bound to crumble
Oh, that is right, since you are a monster
No wonder are such petty that things you mumble."
He tried to keep looking forward, he did
But time found him at the brink of despair
Until a man reached out his hand, his hand
And saw him for who he was, to be fair.
Snatched from the edge of a perilous pit
He looked at the man in wonder and beamed
For at last someone, even if just one person
Has taken up a needle to sow his heart's seams.
"My dream, my dream, it will be reached
I must not let go and hold it close to me
One day, someday, the day will come, when
They will not see a monster, but the boy that is me."
