Momma and Daddy, Did You Take Time To Pray

I’ve made my entrance into this world. You looked at me with your eyes you did adore. Your love and protection I could feel My name you gave me was written and sealed. You held and nurtured me all through the day. But, Momma and Daddy, “Did you take time to pray?” My needs you met, working all the day long. Taking time to stop and sing me a song. Daddy, you would kiss me as you go off to work. While Momma stayed home, washed my clothes, sewed and cooked. Your hands were busy all through the day. But, Momma and Daddy, “Did you take time to pray?” When I was sick, you would rush me to a doctor. Never knowing the true healing of a Heavenly Father. When I was better you would take time to play. But, Momma and Daddy, “Did you take time to pray?” We would go for a drive on a country road. Laughing and enjoying the stories you told. What is that building with all those people? What is that building with that big, tall steeple? You looked and smiled, then turned away. But, Momma and Daddy, “Did you take time to pray?” Attending my ballgames, you would sit in the stands. You always were my biggest fans. You gave me all the world had to offer. Hoping my life would someday prosper. Vacations and gifts with your money, you would pay. But, Momma and Daddy, “Did you take time to pray?” I am growing into my teenage years. Finding myself secretly in tears. There is heaviness inside of me, A longing and yearning to be set free. This feeling will not go away. Momma and Daddy, “Did you take time to pray?” My troubles and fears, I did hide. There is a great emptiness inside. The light is dim and I am losing my way. Momma and Daddy, “Did you take time to pray?” Time has quickly passed me by. Who is this man Jesus splitting the Eastern Sky? Did you know Him? I never heard you say. Momma and Daddy, “Did you take time to pray?” Did you call on His name and fall to your knees? Did you send a parents prayer up to Heaven for me? All this time on Earth you stayed. Momma and Daddy, “Did you take time to pray?” As I turned to look at this man Jesus once more. It was then my knees hit the floor. I bowed before Him, my tongue did confess. It was then I knew I had failed the test. The ground is opening, the flames rage high. As fire and brimstone fall from the sky. I hear the sound of eerie, suffering cries. With my soul, I will pay the price. “Help me Momma and Daddy!” I cried. Help me find a place to hide. Through the roaring flames I see your face. “Why didn’t you tell me of this awful, awful place?” God’s presence is nowhere to be found. In this bottomless pit, my soul is bound. Eternity is a long time to stay. Momma and Daddy, “Why didn’t you pray?” Written by: Donetta Harless March 7, 2006 1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
