. Learning to change stinky diapers While holding my breath A screaming, hungry baby Tearing my nerves apart And then feeding them warm milk That puts them to sleep So peaceful and angel like Until the wailing starts Bam! The doctor says Congratulations you are expecting Oh! No!!! Not again this soon Let the nausea begin Then the days and years click by One is busy destroying everything The other one holds onto your leg While you try to cook and clean Something happened I guess it is a miracle The nausea happened While I was supposed to be protected There was a pinprick in the diaphram I did not see it there Well, another miracle Who has red hair There were many jobs In my lifetime Teacher, Census worker Wife and pastor husband support The most important though So it seemed was Being a support For my husband and children

The sweet life, Sara, being a young dad, then more so a working father after my wife died with a young growing family, thanks to mom and three sisters, they helped to smooth the rough edges of my life. A beautiful sharing, Sara, my heartfelt thanks--mom. Aloha, William

Hilo, I am glad that you had a support system to fill in the gap when your wife died. I know that had to be a very difficult time for you in so many ways. Thanks for stopping by. Sara K

Though some don’t deem it as important, it is of ultimate importance to serve as a mom. The job dirty, sometimes thankless, lonely even. And “ Teacher, Census worker Wife and pastor husband support,” all important :) Congratulations!

Beata, caring for your own children is not easy and taking on the responsibility of child that belongs to someone else is a worthy calling. Life is not easy at the best and with the added problems of a child that has handicaps of one sort, or another complicates things. Thanks for the visit. Sara K

Dear Sara The raw honesty of the first few lines....the chaotic, exhausting, yet undeniably precious early days of motherhood. The contrast between the screaming baby and the slumber is so real, it made me chuckle and sigh all at once. It's a rollercoaster of emotions mixed with love, apprehension, and maybe a touch of fear. Sara, you don't shy away from the messy realities of motherhood, but you also highlight the love, resilience, and selflessness that come with it. - Blessings, Daniel

Why, thank you, Daniel. It is a rollercoaster ride for sure during those early years then again in the teens. They are a lot of fun, barrel of laughs, and joy in a life that might otherwise be just blah. Your comment added a great dimension to my page. Sara K

A poem so special--a wonderful memory recall reminiscing in joy of family. The ending stanza sums it up nicely, Sara-- the major role mothers and wives play--they are the pillars that hold everything in place.

Oh my, this is such a beautiful write dear Sara.. Children truly come as a blessing in one's life.. They can heal all the worries with their innocent smile and giggles. You've wonderfully explored the emotions when things happen suddenly and especially when the responsibilities of motherhood double. But as much as comes in as our duties being multiplied, the happiness gets multiplied too. A soulful and wonderfully crafted poem, indeed. Sending you many best wishes and love :)

Yes, Hiya, we can get lots of laughs and lots of fun, but also lots of responsibilities plus they get to be teenagers. My mother used to say when they are little they walk on your toes and when they get grown they walk on your heart. Thank you for your visit and the supporting comment. Sara K

Awwn yes children are a blessing really. And the way youv written about that is soulful and any mother can resonate. I wish i had more kids too. Some might think motherhood is easy, but it is a job too which requires time and patience plus energy. I enjoyed reading this. Best wishes if this is for the contest, sending you light always

Motherhood ought to be lauded. My sorrow is I had only one child.

Victor, taking care of children is not easy since it includes all the other responsibilities that goes along with it, but I made it through. Thanks for dropping by and saying that motherhood should be lauded and you are sorry that you only had one child. A good healthy normal child is wonderful and the grandchildren that come later are wonderful as well. Sara K

I've never had my own children, but in reading your poem I can better understand and appreciate the journey of motherhood. That being said, being a stepmom was unique; and despite all the jobs and careers, being a support for my husband and them was the most important of all. Well done, hugs, Sara

The journey of motherhood, from the challenges of caring for young children to the unexpected joy of a new pregnancy, and the ultimate importance of supporting one's family is so well depicted in your poem, Sara. You used straightforward language to convey the raw emotions and experiences of motherhood. The word choice is relatable and evokes the everyday challenges and joys of parenting.
