Mocking the Birds

The mockingbird sings, Emulating rings, Confusing all nearby birds. He keeps me awake; Won’t step on the brake. So glad he cannot speak words. For what I utter Might cause a flutter Among other choristers. “Please choose one,” I smile, “And do not compile The sweet tunes of your sisters”

yes, I heard that mocking birds are quite similar to the sky larks in the way they do the other birds' songs. Nice one, and congrats for your win.

Grats on your win Carolyn. I like the grumble approach, the birds mocking, keeping you awake, sometimes there is bitterness with beauty. I dig it. well done

I love this super fine write my friend! How amazing that we both wrote poems on the mockingbird! However mine was not a contest entry but rather a tribute to the great poet Frank L. Stanton and his mockingbird poem. Only now did I see your great write..

This is so fun Carolyn. I like song birds but sometimes bird chatter wakes me too early and then I can't go back to sleep, so I sure can identify with your sweet poem. A wonderful entry.

What a beautiful disaster of harmonics these birds provide. I get bothered by noise when trying to sleep...but for some reason the birds don't bother me. I feed them sweet red syrup.

very cutely done, Carolyn. As I was researching the sky lark, I came upon the fact that they too are similar to mocking birds, the way they copy their singing.

This is a sweet write, Carolyn! :) My brother gets so unnerved by those early morning birds. Poor man...he is a hopeless insomniac and those birds drive him over the bend. You've made them sweet...though..I'd LOVE to hear your choice words, my dear. Hugs
